Digital CCTV systems typically use fixed Cat5e cables to link individual cameras through a computer network to a network video recorder (NVR). The cameras communicate with the NVR across the network using IP (Internet Protocol).
Wireless IP cameras also use IP to communicate with the NVR, but the fixed cabling is replaced by wireless signals, normally using the public 2.4Ghz frequency.
What are the benefits of Wireless CCTV?
There are several compelling reasons to choose wireless CCTV :-
Reduced costs – wireless CCTV avoids the cost of implementing and maintaining cabling
Easy to install – quicker to install than fixed IP cameras, sites can often be up and running within hours
Integration – wireless CCTV capability can be easily integrated into an existing network
Flexibility – wireless cameras can easily be relocated to suit changing circumstances
Mobile – wireless cameras can be worn on the body for truly mobile CCTV
Secure – without cables, wireless cameras are less prone to vandalism
Covert Surveillance – wireless cameras can be concealed more easily where covert coverage is needed
