Types of cameras supported

The AFIANT NVMS support cameras from a wide range of manufacturers and formats including:

  • Analogue - traditional cameras linked directly to recording equipment. In analogue systems, the video picture is represented by a continuously varying quantity, usually a voltage. Every stage of the process, from the camera through the cabling, switching, recording and finally display involves signal transfer with unavoidable loss of both accuracy & quality.

  • Digital - digital IP cameras transfer images as a digital stream across a network. Digital signals can be transferred from one stage to another with total precision, as each part of the signal is recorded as a number.

Digital cameras not only offer better resolution and image quality, but also inherent 'intelligence'. They can detect motion, switch on ancilliary items (lights, trigger alarms, open gates, close doors and record pre- and post-alarm images).

  • Wireless - wireless cameras offer all the benefits of digital cameras, but connect to the AFIANT recorder via a WiFi connection, eliminating the need for the installation of cabling and the resultant disruption during installation.
